Sighting location: Llangasty to stone wall and back. Sighting date: 12th December 2008 early afternoon
Llangorse Lake two fifths covered by ice, mostly on the west side right across the middle, though half of this had disappeared by mid-afternoon with a strengthening breeze; thus a lot of the duck and Coot were in the eastern half, many hidden by the reed fringe. 11 Goldeneye; 13 Pochard; many Tufted Duck and Teal, quite a few Gadwall; 5 Shoveler, 15 Snipe; 45 Lapwing flew over.

Sighting location: Slwch Farm way-marked Tir Gofal access. Sighting date: 11th December lunchtime
Around the plot of unharvested oats off Piggery Lane - 20+ Reed Bunting, 8-10 Yellowhammer, 10 Greenfinch, 40 Chaffinch, 5 Blue Tit, 2 Dunnock. On stubble nearby 30 Starling and 30 Linnet. 4 Tree Sparrow were keener on prospecting oak tree holes as nest sites, rather than feeding to keep out the cold.

Sighting location: Blaencamlais Pool / Mynydd Illtyd. Sighting date: 11th December 2008 afternoon
Majority of standing water frozen, only the streams ice-free:--- 5 Goldcrest; 11 Long-tailed Tit; 1 Coal Tit; 1 Treecreeper; 30 Redwing; a few each of Robin / Blackbird / Dunnock / Starling / Carrion Crow / Wood Pigeon; 50 Fieldfare; 5 Buzzard; 2 Red Kite.

Sighting location: Brecon Sewage Treatment Works. Sighting date: 11.12.08
2 Chiffchaff, 7 Goldcrest, 2 Mipit and a Grey Wagtail. Chiffchaff and Goldcrest seem to have a favoured feeding spot on the overgrown bed next to the fence in the corner.

Sighting location: Brecon: Canal Basis - BSTW - Island Fields. Sighting date: 10.12.08
Canal: 1 male Redpoll behind Morrison's garage and 2 Mute Swan. BSTW: 3 Goldcrest, 1 Grey Wagtail and 2 Mipit. BSTW to Island Field's: 1 drake Goosander, 2 Little Grebe, 1 Moorhen, 3 Grey Wagtail, 2 Dipper, 1 Marsh Tit, 1 Treecreeper and a female Bullfinch.

Sighting location: Llangorse lake: Llangasty - hide. Sighting date: 9 Dec 08
Starling roost at 2-3 different sites at the lake. Big flocks landed just to the left of the hide and then moved slowly along the reedbed towards the church. Juv male goshawk came for a sure meal. 2 Tawny Owls in the old woodland calling.

2 Mute Swan with 3 juv (one adult had a blue colour ring), 2 Moorhen, 1 Mallard, 2 Pied Wagtail, 9 Lapwing, 2 Raven and singles of GS Woodpecker, Bullfinch, Goldcrest and Wren.

Sighting location: SN8943/9043/9042/8941/9041. Sighting date: 7/12/2008
4 Woodcock alongside Llwynfynwent Woods track in wet areas, and 2 woodcock in wet areas along stream in Cwm Dwfnant.
2 Snipe on edge Of MOD Range near Cross Inn near a dug-out pool. 5 Kites, 3 Buzzard, and single Kestrel, a rarity in this area now.

Sighting location: Llangorse boar hire car park. Sighting date: 9th December 2008 afternoon
Bird behaviour that I've not noticed before::: a couple (M + F) of House Sparrows flew over to each vehicle (just after it was parked and the owner was walking away) and proceeded to inspect tyres and wheelarches occasionally pecking at something, presumably looking for seeds.
