Little Egret - spotted whilst crossing the bridge at Glasbury on the way to Hereford at about 9.30am this morning - bird feeding close to the riverbank (close to the carpark) - i didn't think they moved this far west but then it is 8 years since i saw a little egret for the 1st time at the Otmoor reserve.

To complete yesterday's tetrad survey - upland, so only 15 spp but some good numbers: : : 35 Redwing, 15 Fieldfare, 4 Jay, 65 Siskin flock, 2 Goldcrest, 2 Treecreeper, 3 vociferous Nuthatch, only 8 Blue Tit, 30+ Long-tailed Tit but minimal count as they were all around me and moving in inconsistent directions.

GN Diver , several Dabchicks, Male goldeneye. Midday.

27 spp seen in 1st hour - lowland along R.Usk and return along canal - included 1M and 2F Goosander, 1 Heron, 4 Mallard, 2 Pheasant, 2 G-s Woodpecker, 2 Jay but no Magpie, 60 Rook, 20 Blackbird, 3 Song Thrush, 6 Mistles, 11 Redwing. . In 2 tit parties 2 Tree Creepers, 21 Blue Tit, 5 Great Tit, 3 Coal Tit, 2 Marsh/Willows and two parties of 24 and 14 Long-tailed Tits. To answer a recent query about Nuthatch - where are they - the first three seen were quite silent and far from obvious while the 4th was very vocal. . The 2nd hour in the upland part of tetrad was aborted due to grotty weather and poor light, to be done another day.

Viewed from the office window at 10.30am today, a Peregrine did a circuit of Slwch Tump, Brecon.

Great Northern Diver still present but illusive, seen briefly at 15:10 close to far bank immediately opposite bird hide.

Between town and Sewage Works, 3 Goosanders, 2 Dippers, 2 Little Grebes, 3 Grey Wags, c60 Pied, and a Chiffchaff. Moving over the town, Starling flocks changed shape to dodge a Peregrine.

99 BH Gull, 3 Goosander, 2 Moorhen and singles of Nuthatch, Red Kite, Grey Wagtail, Dipper and Kingfisher. 2 male Bullfinch in the town centre.
