Entry added by: Andrew King on Sat 5th January 08, 10:00pm Sighting location: Llangorse Lake - Cormorant query. Sighting date: Christmas Day
In response to Peter Seaman's Cormorant query of 25.12.07. I had assumed it was an adult bird of British race 'carbo' race that has come into breeding plumage early. This race is the common one, but having studied Mark's photo on 'Gallery' I now conclude it is an adult bird of the Continental/Baltic 'sinensis' race in full breeding plumage. Adults of both races in breeding plumage do exhibit grey heads and white thigh patches, the latter quite obvious in flight. We used to get 'sinensis' in the County more regularly 10-15 years ago than currently. This race are habitual tree-nesters (rather than cliff) so you never know!!
