Sighting location: Craig y Fro at 400m. Sighting date: 26/01/10
Ref. Andrew's observation of a Barn Owl hunting at 400m on the 26th (I suspect moorland but don't know - and I can't refer back to the GR once I've started this because this form covers the report ! - - - an irritating weakness of the website). Going by the innumerable small mammal runs in the grass, among the Heather, among the Bilberry and on top of the grass (from when it was covered by snow) at 400 - 500m on Partrishow Hill a week ago (gasp), the uplands are crawling with small mammals - it's just that we don't see them under the vegetation. Presumably, also, birds of prey have to hunt prolongedly for that chance careless mammal that shows a twitch of a whisker or grass stem.
