Visited some sites along the river Hydfer (Usk tributary above Trecastle) between Pont ar Hydfer and Moel Feity forestry today. Four Spotted Flycatcher territories, including one in forestry. Two of Pied Flycatcher. Three Tree Pipit including at least 2 territories at Bryn Tywarch. A Tawny owl flushed of the river stones. A pair of Starlings at Pont ar Hydfer. Four Wood Warbler territories in Moel Feity forest (2 in 2019 on a shorter walk through there). Insects then stole the show. Firstly a male Brimstone butterfly in woodland at SN8527. Then, as well as a fresh Broad bodied Chaser, I photographed one of at least two Dingy Skippers at a remote open sunny track deep In Moel Feity forest above Blaunau Isaf (SN8425, although I might have to revise exact grid). Latter a first for me.

Sightings over last 2 weeks - of 3 breeding Curlew prs under obs the only nest found had already been predated by Crows prior to full clutch being laid. Just one pr Lapwing in arable this year successfully raised 2 chicks, but the Llangorse Lake mob left prior to the worst of May's floods. Most of the 7+ Lake Mute Swan nests have had clutches of eggs lost to floods, although 2 small cygnets noted on 25th. Usk & Wye Valley LRP and Oycs have also probably lost full or pt-clutches, but C Sandpiper faring better. Of 20+ Pied Flycatcher broods monitored in nestboxes just one with chicks (27th) so far, the rest with clutches of 6/7 eggs, so may be ideally timed with better weather now. Lesser Whitethroat holding territory at Pencelli Storehouse. Several Whitethraot and Yellowhammer males on territory around Pennorth.
