How to avoid the masses - find the MOD Training Area red flags. Just 2 walkers and a shepherd on a still evening. Few birds but some quality - juv Marsh Harrier, 5 Kestrels, Red Kite, Buzzards, 6+ Ravens and a few lingering Skylarks and M Pipits. Fox.

Plenty of birds over the reserve this morning, a single swift, 2 spotted flycatchers still, 4 willow warblers including 1 singing, 15 stock doves and several small flocks of hirundines (swallow/house martin). 35 species in all.

Hobby circling over Beacons park, Brecon feeding on a small bird at 9.30am. Wheatear at Pen Milan near Libanus this afternoon. 16 hirundines few east over Y Byddwn at 20.15 this evening.

Not birds, but a lovely surprise all the same: 5 tiny baby lizards on our garden wall.

On holiday and saw a dotterel on the path by the trig point. I am not a bird spotter but knew it was something interesting and used Google image search to identify. I searched this website and see someone else also spotted dotterels at the same location in May 2019. [Matt- thankyou for reporting your find on this website. Nice find. Migrating Dotterel here are reported by hill-walkers & visitors, and the Black Mtns is quite reliable spring & autumn. AK - County Bird Recorder]

A late Swift over Libanus. Up at Pont ar Daf a Green Sandpiper flushed by the tank defences where there was a Dipper. A Kestrel was disputing a telegraph pole with a Wood Pigeon at Storey Arms.

On a south Brecs moor 3 Red Grouse, a young Kestrel and 4 Wheatear. Stopped in at Llangasty on the way home where two Greenshank were on the point.

Upon the moors at Pen rhos of note were, 15 Golden Plover, a pair of hunting Kestrels, female Hen Harrier and a Green Woodpecker.

Having recently got into the dark art of 'Nocmigging' recently ( Recording the sounds of the Night ), I have had so far a Calling Common Sandpiper passing overhead in the early hours, and this morning at 3.00 a.m a Redshank which gave a single call, also numerous mystery calls and the very vocal local Tawny Owls..watch this space !

3 Common (2ad 1juv) and a juv Arctic Tern at the lake where when the wind really picked up they would settle on the water. Also single Common and Herring Gull with 70 LBB and singles of Little Grebe, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Goosander and Hobby.
