A post breeding flock of at least 120 Starlings were around Felincamlais pool, Mynydd Illtyd. The largest I have seen locally for some years, however very scattered and difficult to get a precise count. In Brecon, I was convinced I heard a Spotted Flycatcher singing to the south side of Morrisons - some tall trees and gardens there above the charging point. Called in to Trallong common on way back and had Yellowhammer and singing Tree Pipit. The most interesting record was at the old railway bridge structure to the side of the Usk there, where a pair of Sand Martins perched at a (engineered) slot hole in the bridge on two occasions.

We have a Little Owl regularly visiting the garden and sitting in one of the apple trees, but flies off when spotted, usually returning later. Lesser Whitethroat singing in the hedgerows frequently, but remains stubbornly hidden from view.

4-5 Nightjar churring at Talybont Reservoir from 22:00 with 2 from the east side and 2-3 on the west side where two were wing clapping and chasing each other making their “croaking” calls.

Nice to see an adult Tawny Owl with owlet flying strongly across the tree canopy in full sunshine at the lake yesterday. No Hobbies seen and this was not surprising as there were no dragonflies seen anywhere there. This welcome warm air flow we are enjoying at the moment is bringing some nice birds into the UK, R B Shrike, Lesser Grey Shrike, G S Cuckoo and Golden Orioles, sadly none of those gems around here. One interesting report is the large numbers of R C Starlings arriving in northern Spain and now subsequently arriving in the U K. It is predicted that many more will reach our shores in the coming week - fingers crossed!

Very faint Nightjar called very briefly from 22:53, and then another couple of weak bursts. A Grasshopper Warbler also called weakly. Earlier a female Cuckoo caught a caterpillar whilst being shadowed by a Mipit and a male Stonechat. All SN8811
