Egret sp. in flight heading west above A483 near Beulah. Suspect may have come up from Garth Lake. Couldn't stop to get a decent look but suspect Great White due to size

WeBs count on the Illtyd gave 39 Snipe and 2 Mallard. 40 Fieldfare and 50 Redwing were feeding on haws. Still low numbers of Meadow Pipit and Skylark with three of the latter in full song flight when the sun shone. Outside the count area 143 Golden Plover were in their traditional roost. Later at Llangasty 3 Pintail, 3 Lapwing and a Greylag on the point with 1 GW and 2 Little Egret. A Sparrowhawk was hunting.

About 30 Redwings flew over Brecon Hospital at 8.35, 4 Swallows were near the Theatr, and a Chiffchaff chased Blue Tits by the allotments - why do Chiffchaffs so often chase other small birds?

About 50 golden plover flew south west over Mynydd Illtud this afternoon.

1 Tree Pipit calling and heading west this afternoon over my garden, also recently a Water Rail in a nearby arable field, which rapidly ran for cover into a nearby ditch, Nocturnal sound recording highlights have been very few with only a Ringed Plover recorded, however as expected there is a steady increase now in Redwing calls.

19 Golden Plover on the common late Sunday evening

Not sure I have ever had an '8-raptor-day' but it happened today on a 4-hr walk and journeys. The sunshine definitely helped! Kestrel, male Merlin, Red Kites, Buzzards, Sparrowhawk, male Hen Harrier and on the journeys viewed from the car Goshawk and Peregrine. Also within the 33 species seen, 3 Crossbill, 2 Reed Buntings, Snipe, 8 Raven, Bullfinches on Rowan berries, pr Stonechat, 8 LT Tits and a single redwing with Mistle Thrushes in Rowan.

Two Whooper Swans flew in calling from the east at 3.36, circled around for ten minutes and left the way they had come. A Merlin flew through. One great Egret at Llangasty.

Point - single Lapwing and Dunlin. Gt White Egret. Lake - 40 Tufted Duck and 2 Shelduck. Caeau Ty Mawr - 130 Goldfinch attracted a juv male Sparrowhawk that failed in a bid to take one as the flock enjoyed Hardhead seeds. 3 Stonechats and 15+ Meadow Pipits.
