Sighting location: Penyfan. Sighting date: 16/12/09
For anyone with a calorie or two they want to burn off pre Xmas, a Snow Bunting has come through the atlas system, seen on the top of Penyfan on 27th November. Seen by a visiting birder/walker. Another has been similarly reported (at lower altitudes) in inland Carms so there may be a wee movement on the go.

Sighting location: Black Mtns/MOD Epynt. Sighting date: 13/12/09
Sucker for punishment that I am, over the weekend I took on 4 TTV in the uplands at 350m - 550 metres. The two in the Black Mountains yielded 3 territorial male Red Grouse 'go-backing' at each other. The only other birds of note being in the woodland fringe - a Kestrel, 9 LTTit, 2 Goldcrest, 15 LRedpoll, Tree-creeper, 150 Redwing and 4 Bullfinch. On the Epynt TTV's, 5 Woodcock flushed (all given away in advance by the tell-tale circles of 'whitewash' on the sodden leaf-litter), 30 Golden Plover, 5 Bullfinch, 2 Willow Tit, and single Kestrel and Green Woodpecker. 25 LRedpoll and a Merlin were nearby.
