Entry added by: Graham Evans on Tue 28th September 10, 04:24pm Sighting location: Aberbran, and Llwyniago, Libanus. Sighting date: 26/09/10
Female Sparrowhawk at Aberbran - she crashed into my mother-in-law's kitchen window during Sunday breakfast, before flying off rather groggily. Mixed feelings about this sighting, as the garden bird feeder has both Tree and House sparrows, 5 Tit species incl Marsh, Nuthatches, GS Woodpeckers, Finches etc etc. She would perhaps be more welcome at home in Libanus, where we currently have 80-100 Goldfinches in the fields. Also a Tawny Owl calling these last few nights, the first for several years.

Thanks to a low flying helicopter that spooked a large flock of finches. Too dull to visually id but recognised calls of linnets, golfinches, chaffinches, meadow pipits. On the bank/scrub to the south of the dam wall. probably in excess of 5000 birds. Managing to count roughly in 100's I got to 2500 before they went back to ground. ... Also, Jays busy hiding food, warblers feeding in the trees , mostly willow but some others too. Nuthatches in pairs.
