1 Goldcrest, 3 Bullfinch, 1 Marsh Tit, 2 Cole Tit, 7 Long Tailed Tit 1 Song Thrush, c.25 Fieldfare, c.100 Starling and a male Sparrowhawk.

Great Tit singing, 10 Blue Tit, 4 Coal Tit, 4 Goldcrest, 12 Siskin, 5 Robin, 2 Raven, 10 L-t Tit but no shrike at SE Usk Resr SO828283. Tawny Owl calling at dusk.

Great Grey Shrike showing well, down to 7m viewed from vehicle, at 10:45 in willow/thorn scrub between road and SE bay of Usk Reservoir. Also Jack Snipe feeding along rush/mud fringe of same bay.

With a cold north wind and building works at the dam, even the head of the resr was disappointingly quiet with only 6 Coot showing.

Very quiet in afternoon: 3 Goldcrest, 1 Buzzard, 6 Blue Tit, 2 Coal Tit, 1m & 1f Goosander, 1m Goldeneye, 4 Mallard, few gulls, 2 Raven. 1 Dipper on Taf Fechan at Pont y Llwyn.

Incredibly beautiful weather this afternoon but it brought out all the yapping dogs and their adulating owners which, together with the fishermen's outboards, thoroughly disturbed the birds. What few there were were noted in the hide notebook; still 47 Cormorants in the evening going (to roost?) in their tree by the tourist area.
