Spotted Flycatcher at last ! One month later than 2017.

A 7 mile walk yesterday evening from Llangasty to Allt-yr-Esgair and back produced (at Allt) 3 Yellowhammers, 1 Tree Pipit, 2 Garden Warblers, 4 Ravens, 2 Red Kites and 3 Redstarts amongst other species. Back at Llangorse there were 2 Tawny Owls (1 adult and a fledgling) calling in the woods near the hide, 2 Oystercatchers on the point and another adult Tawny near the church where there was also a fox cub.

A Kestrel in Cwm Llia and a Yellow Hammer between Mynydd Illtyd and Homebase. At Llangasty we saw 3 Hobbys over the Church grounds. Also a very smart Reed Bunting and Garden Warbler.

Walk from Forest Lodge to Craig Cwm-du NNR yesterday gave following key species. Crossbill (2+), Spottted Fly (singing male or possible pair), Pied Fly alarm, Redstart 6 terr. (none at CCD NNR), Tree Pipit 7 terr. (4 at NNR), Whinchat 6 terr (only one outside NNR, all strongly sinigng males - only one alarming female noted), 2+ singing Cuckoo wandering, Kestrel at NNR, no Ring Ouzel but 4+ Blackbird territories. No Wheatear, just 3 Stonechat terr, no Garden Warbler. Superb displays of Welsh Poppies at NNR. Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary 2 on the wing (2 and 7 SPBF at Crai res and Penwyllt on the 10th)

A Lesser Spotted Wodpecker nest found on my rounds of the nest boxes. Three well grown young in the nest hole. The Pied Flycatchers are rearing an average of 6.25 young (12 broods rung). This is a northerly facing wood at an altitude of 300m.with late springs- a Lesser Celandine was still in flower yesterday..

Lesser Whitethroat rattling at SO0127. On same square Common Whitethroat and at least 5 yellowhammer terr (cumulative total 2 visits). Sn9927 Marsh Tit.

Emerald Damselfly - 1st this year. Male & Female Beautiful Demoiselle Damselflies mating. Common Blue Butterflies.

Male Emperor Dragonfly and Male Beautiful Demoiselle Damselfly. Female Broadbodied Chaser Dragonfly ovipositing.
