Driving home from The Begwns at about 1600h a flock of about 500 - 1000 Starlings flew west up the Usk Valley past Crickhowell. Helps answer the question of where the Starlings feed during the day

Entry added by: Mark Waldron on Tue 5th November 19, 05:46pm Sighting location: Llangorse Lake / Brecon Beacons. Sighting date: 05/11/19
A White-fronted Goose was at Llangasty along with a drake Pintail and a Little Grebe. Also 4 Little and the GW Egret. 3 Stonechat were near the hide. Earlier in the day 2 Stonechat were at Storey Arms and 80 Fieldfare and a few Redwing were grounded around Corndu and Pen-y-Fan peaks with Red Grouse droppings found near by. A male Blackcap in my garden at lunchtime was a garden first.

Entry added by: John Harper on Sun 3rd November 19, 09:13pm Sighting location: Llangorse Lake - South Shore. Sighting date: 03/11/19
I watched the Starlings with Peter for a time and reckon it was the largest number I have seen at Llangorse Lake in many years, if not ever. A guess at numbers would be 100 000. They initially seemed to collect to the left of the hide, then moved in large groups along the reeds eastwards (how far ?). When I was walking back to the car park I heard enormous numbers, over the reeds, moving back westwards along the shore but not visible from the pastures.

Just to add to Peter's starling sightings about 10000 flew NW over my house at 7.15 this morning

Entry added by: Peter Seaman on Sun 3rd November 19, 06:33pm Sighting location: Llangasty side of Llangorse Lake. Sighting date: 03/11/19
Starlings at Llangorse. An outstanding number of birds arriving in the reed beds either side of the birdhide tonight from 4pm to 5pm. I am useless at estimating numbers but it could easily have been a 1/4 million. My intention was to photograph aerial displays but instead they flew in low across the lake straight into the reeds. The noise was very impressive and despite a lack of snaps, I was overawed by this nature spectacular.

Flock of lapwing 30/35, presumably the same flock as seen on 12/10/19 north of Lower Pontwillim Farm. First seen today in there characteristic deep and slow twisting flight pattern and then landing in distant fields further north. Also loads of thrushes, starlings and woodpigeons flying about north of house this morning where I have good views towards Llandew and Llandefaelog.
