Five Great and three Little Egrets roosted together low in trees across from Llangasty, with five Herons nearby. Thousands of Starlings came into the western reeds but did not put on much of a show.

The Great Grey Shrike was back on its winter territory today successfully hunting by the old bird hide. Also a Goshawk, 2 Crossbill, a pair of Bullfinch, 3 Willow Tit and a Goldeneye of note. Two more Crossbill were seen near Cwmwysg chapel on the way back to Trecastle. Earlier in the day a Brambling was with a handful of Chaffinches along the top path at Priory Groves. Still only 18 Golden Plover in the Mynydd Illtyd roost this evening.

Entry added by: Gareth Rees on Sat 17th November 18, 06:05pm Sighting location: Epynt. Sighting date: 17/11/18
Very breezy up on the hill at dusk, 20 Fieldfare, c25 Golden Plover and c1200 Starling in 6 groups moving to a roost site. Given the windy conditions I thought the chances of raptor/owl activity was low so a Short-eared Owl seen perched on the ground and then flushed from the side of the road was a great end. Managed to pick it up again in the gloom as it few into the red western sky.

As I arrived home tonight several Redwing calls were heard and two 10 min sample counts (18:20-18:30 and 19:20-19:30) gave counts of 8 and 7 calls indicating around 40 calls per hour. Will be interesting to see if this continues.
